Has the 4th of July lost it's pizzaz for you? It sure has for me. I didn't want this to happen, it just happened over time. The fireworks shows all seem to blend together in sameness now. Can you relate? This loss of pizzaz for the fireworks shows and other things we once found exciting, is not uncommon as one gets older and more mature I think, but it is dangerous in marriage if we don't keep God's love and perspective in our hearts and minds. You see, maturing in God's Kingdom is measured by how well we are loving one another and as we mature the love we have for one another should grow deeper, increasing in intimacy. The same is true for our relationship with God. Do you remember a hand held firework called a Sparkler? I think they are still around, aren't they? It has been some time since we've purchased consumer fireworks because the towns we've lived in ban them. Getting a sparkler going requires fire of some kind and that is dangerous for little people, thus communities pull out rules to protect the children. Getting the spark going in marriage is risky too because we have step into humility and become vulnerable. If you have lost the pizzaz in your marriage; how do you get it back? You will have to examine the relational rules you are using to self-protect. Is self-protection worth the lack of intimacy you and your spouse share today? I can tell you God has so much more for you and your marriage. Let's explore ways to reignite the pizzaz in the summer months ahead. Believe it or not, half of 2014 is in the past. It is time to let the sparks fly again.
